THE PATH OF REMEMBRANCE AND COMRADESHIP
OVERVIEW
THE PATH OF REMEMBRANCE AND COMRADESHIP
During World War II, the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, was under the rule of Fascist Italy,
and later under Nazi Germany.
Trying to stop the Slovenians' resistance,
the Italian forces erected a barbed-wire fence which surrounded the whole city.
Nowadays, a 34-kilometre (21-mile) tree-lined recreational path runs where the wire once was.
It is suitable for walkers, runners, and cyclists, with a march and run organised each May in commemoration of Ljubljana's fight for freedom.
