ITINERARY & HIGHLIGHTS

Pohorje Itinerary ENG

DAY 1:

MARIBOR - OSANKARICA

DISTANCE CYCLED: 44 km / 27 mi

ELEVATION GAIN: 1,010 m / 3,314 ft

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: 5/5 (extensive climbing)

  • start cycling in Maribor

  • visit the open-air museum of farming tools in the village of Kočno

  • visit the Jesen Partisan Hospital from World War II

  • have a rest at the Trije kralji Recreational and Ski Centre and visit the church there

  • visit the Črno jezero Lake near the Osankarica Lodge

  • have a walk to the Pohorje Battalion (WW II) Memorial Site near the Osankarica Lodge

DAY 2:

OSANKARICA - ROGLA

DISTANCE CYCLED: 21 km / 13 mi

ELEVATION GAIN: 380 m / 1,247 ft

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: 3/5 (rolling, hilly terrain)

  • stop at the Pesek Lodge for some refreshment or traditional food

  • have a walk around the Rogla Ski and Recreational Centre

  • visit the church in Rogla

  • climb up the Rogla Viewing Tower for a better view over the vastness of the Pohorje Hills

DAY 3:

ROGLA - KOPE

DISTANCE CYCLED: 25 km / 16 miles

ELEVATION GAIN: 520 m / 1,706 ft

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: 4/5 (some long and/or steep climbs)

  • stop at Lake Jezerce near the Pesek Lodge

  • ​have a look at the open-air forestry museum near the Pesnik Lodge

  • learn about the area at the Kope Centre next to the Grmovšek Lodge

  • walk up the ski slope in Kope and regain some strength from the energy stations there

DAY 4:

KOPE - VUHRED

DISTANCE CYCLED: 25 km / 16 mi

ELEVATION GAIN: 140 m / 459 ft

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: 1/5 (mostly downhill)

  • cycle to the church in Sv. Anton na Pohorju for some breathtaking views of the Pohorje Hills

  • have a cycle around the village of Vuhred

  • catch a train from Vuhred back to Maribor
